Open from Finder blocked (malware warning)

Viewed 13

I am running the latest beta (Version 3.0.1 (1119)) and it opens documents happily from the File/Open menu. Trying to open the same document from Finder triggers the warning "Apple could not verify “hogarth-curves.md” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy." and gives me the option to "Done" (which does nothing of course, or "Move to Bin".

Is there some setting I have missed?

Actually this may not just be related to Marked after all.

I’m seeing this on macOS 26.4.1 with Marked 2 (App Store). I can’t reliably double-click .md files to open them—setting “Always open with” shows the malware warning and doesn’t persist globally (only applies to one file). Even after approving via right-click → Open, it doesn’t stick. Apps like MarkChart work fine (default app sticks, no repeated prompts), so this seems specific to Marked. It may not be fully registering as a handler/editor for .md, which could explain why Finder won’t persist the association.

Hmm, something put this file in quarantine. Not a Marked issue per se, I appear to have set Marked as the default just for that file.

instead of setting default app via right-click → Get Info → "Open with" → Marked → "Change All" (sets system-wide UTI binding, no
per-file xattr).

So is the issue fixed after this change? The exact same problem was reported by another user and solved by creating a new file with the same content. Not sure why both of you would have the same issue with the same build of Marked, but might just be coincidence?

Yes, the issue was fixed by setting Open with Marked to all files, and removing the quarantine flag with xattr. Really weird behaviour, but at least Marked is now the default instead of some strange LaTEX workshop, something I had been meaning to change for ages...
