The wave function $\psi(x,t)$ is solution of the Schrödinger equation

but more importantly $\left|\psi(x,t)\right|^2$ is the density of probability of presence of the particle at the position $x$ at the time $t$. Let’s try to refer to eqn. (\ref{schroedinger}).
