Unable to Generate Preview when re-opening Marked

Viewed 8

I generally keep 5-10 files open in Marked at a time. When exiting and reopening Marked, several of the tabs show the "Unable to Generate Preview" error.

I then:

  • ⌘+title-bar-click to open the enclosing folder with the tab's file selected
  • close the tab
  • immediately double-click on the file

This time, the file opens in Marked correctly.

This happens so consistently that it seems like a bug rather than a transient condition that would be unique to my machine.

That error does not mean the file is bad. Marked already had the document, but the preview pane still looked empty after a few automatic retries, so it stopped and showed "Unable to generate preview."

It shows up on relaunch because several documents start loading at once. The check runs before those previews have finished drawing, treats them as failed, and the retry interrupts the load that was about to appear. Opening one file by itself only has a single preview to draw, which is why closing the tab and opening it again works.

I fixed that so a preview that is still loading is not counted as a failure. It will be in the next release. Until then, the close-and-reopen step you found is the right workaround.

Thanks for the report.
