word count for selection

When I make a selection, a little pop-up shows the word count. But it disappears as soon as I move the mouse. And I can't get it back again unless I make the selection again. Is it possible to put the selection word count in the statistics bar at the bottom of the window, and let it replace the total word count if there is a selection?
