3x hyphen to quotation dash instead of em dash

Unicode's line break opportunities for em dash are simply wrong for some non-English languages (see confirmed bug "Poor line break of em dash in Spanish"). Gecko seems to fix it in its implementation of line break rules, but Webkit, which I presume Marked uses, is faithful to the standard down to that bug. In fiction the use of the em dash is frequent, and hence the bug manifests (uglily) quite often, leaving orphan em dash all around.

The quotation dash character, a.k.a. horizontal bar, has a similar look and purpose, according to Unicode's own spec, with the added benefit that its line break opportunities in Webkit seem to be nice to Spanish (which is my concern; couldn't find what rule Unicode sets for that character though).

Em dashes are easy to type on a Mac (⌘⇧hyphen), yet there is no keyboard shortcut for quotation dash whatsoever.

I learnt minutes ago that, with Marked, one can also type 3 hyphens and that will be converted to an em dash.

Is there a chance we could see a preference to tell Marked to render quotation dashes instead of em dashes when we type 3 hyphens?

While this may admittedly sound an obscure request, I would guess it is of interest to pretty much any user whose language has that problem with em bash line break rules, even if those users are not aware.

Yet, if such a request is considered preferences-overload, even a hidden preference only settable with the defaults command would be also appreciated.

Note: I do understand doing so would deviate from what the official MultiMarkdown renders, fortunately I would say. I am forwarding this concern to MMD's developer too.

Sorry, this was intended to be tagged as suggestion. I do not know how to change it.

I would agree that this would be a worthwhile conversion. While it really should happen at the MultiMarkdown processing level, I would be willing to do a substitution on render from within Marked. I'll have to research the possibilities to see what would be the most universally compatible, but will look into it.

To see the change made at the MultiMarkdown conversion level, file a ticket on the GitHub issues for MultiMarkdown.
