In Highlighted Keywords, get "Prefer Alternate" but no suggestion

Using the "Keyword Drawer" feature we can get good indications of passive voice, and so on. But some words get flagged as "Prefer Alternate," with no alternative word suggested, nor any explanation of what the problem is.

Am I missing something?

The default keywords highlights come from the lists compiled by The Plain English Campaign. Marked doesn't list possible substitutions, it shows you where you might look for a synonym based on common wisdom.

Thanks for that. The PDF will be very useful. I don't think there was a link to it within the app, but I could be wrong. However, since asking this question last night, I can't get the keyword drawer to open at all. I've quit and restarted, and am just now thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling. Very strange.

That's definitely odd. That was an occasional issue a few versions ago,
but I've fixed it and not had any reports since. Are you triggering via
⌘⇧K, or via the highlight button in the status bar?

    Hi Brett,

I've tried it both ways, with the same result. And I have Version 2.5.10
    (930).

    Cheers,

    Martin

I seem to recall this coming up in version 2.4 at some point, but I can't find the ticket now. I'd recommend deleting the preference file and seeing if that helps...

Depending on which version you're using (MAS, Setapp, or direct) the preference file will be in different locations. Here are the directions for the direct version, let me know if you need different ones.

    1. Quit Marked 2
    2. Delete the file at ~/Library/Preferences/com.brettterpstra.marked2.plist (and any other files starting with com.brettterpstra.marked2). If you're not sure how to access this folder, open Finder and press ⌘⇧G, then paste "~/Library/Preferences" (without quotes) into the box.
    3. Reboot the computer (this is important as OS X aggressively caches preferences and may just restore the deleted file without your knowledge.
    4. Launch Marked 2

Thanks, Brett. But it has fixed itself without me doing anything
    specific. It's just working again.

    Cheers,

Well, that's confusing for both of us, but I'm glad it's sorted.

    Thanks,
    Brett
