Does Marked work with Ulysses?

Hi, I'm unable to make use of the automatic page updates in your viewer. I can drag a document to the menu bar and have it displayed but any further updates are not being seen on the document. The same is true when I save a version. I would really like to use your viewer with Ulysses 3 and so far I have not been able to get it to work seamlessly. Any help is appreciated. Thx

Marked auto-update only works with external sheets in Ulysses. For internal sheets you have to use the Send to Marked option in Quick Export to see updates.

    Thanks Brett,

I was under the impression that I wouldn't have to use the export
function every time I wanted to see an update. Currently that's what I
have to do. I thought I had read in a thread that you could simply use
command+S to have the updates appear in Marked after initial export.

    Only on external sheets.

Thanks Brett, I must be missing something and maybe it's because I'm new to Ulysses.

I thought external sheets were the process of doing the export. When I do that the auto update does not work.

Can you explain the process of creating an external sheet that will auto update with Marked so that I know we're on the same page?

    Thanks,

This is really a Ulysses support issue, but the basic idea is that by default your pages (sheets) are managed internally by Ulysses. If you look at the bottom of the source pane, though, you can use the plus button to "Add External Source." This can be any folder on your drive. If you choose a folder that Marked can access (and that's indexed by Spotlight), you'll be able to drag any sheet within that source folder to Marked and get live previews.

Thanks Brett, I understood that this could have been considered a Ulysses
support issue but I'm trying to use your application and have a good
experience with it shortly after purchase. I appreciate the help but I must
admit that you made one of your customers feel like a burden through this
email exchange. I'm not saying the customer is always right but making them
feel valued vs. like a chore would likely generate more word of mouth.

Hopefully I misread things as I know that can happen through email
exchanges. I do appreciate you covering a topic that was somewhat outside
    of your support area.

I believe you did misread my intentions. I only mention that it's a Ulysses support issue because I don't want to be responsible for providing misinformation about someone else's product. I do hope you're able to achieve the results you're looking for!

Thanks Brett, it did work and I can now see the updates automatically or
through command+S. I am now seeing a red line that popped up randomly and
now moves around as text is added and deleted. Maybe it's supposed to be
there but don't know what its purpose is. See the attached screenshot.

That shows the location of your most recent edit (or the first diff that Marked finds in the document since the last save). You can turn on/off "Scroll to edit" in Window preferences.

I can't get Marked 2 to auto-update a file being edited by Ulysses 3. The file is in "External Sources" and has a .md suffix. It exports it to Marked fine, but does not update at any time.

You have to use Send To (⌘6) and select Marked (just hit return after
you've done it once) to update Marked due to the way that Ulysses
    handles files.

This does not seem true for the latest OS and Ulysses for Mac. First of all the ⌘6 now requires some annoying more clicks to reach the marked 2 app. But the main thing is that the Marked preview initiated in this way does not update at all. If however I close that window and reopen it with the open dialog in marked 2 it stays responsive to file changes. I am talking about a plain textile in .md format in an external folder.. This seems to be a sandbox issue. Wish there was an easier workflow possible

A preview launched with ⌘6 will not update until you do the ⌘6
again. Once you've set Marked as the viewer, hitting ⌘6 then Return
    will update without additional clicks.

If the file is loaded in Ulysses as an external file and being written
to directly, you can open it in Marked (drag the file from Finder to
Marked) and it should update whenever the file writes, no sandboxing
    concerns.

Thank you for 1. pointing out the Finder method for external files and 2. that Marked 2 can actually also open internal Ulysses sheets (which is more than I expected, great! )

What I missed still is as how to "set Marked as the viewer". I hit ⌘6 and Return will always bring me into the Ulysses proprietary preview window with plain text view chosen and the option to see pdf etc, auto-refreshing. Good. But no Marked 2-beauty :-(
Checked both app's preferences - nothing about assigning a viewer.
What am I doing wrong here?

What you want to do is open the Quick Export palette (⌘6) and then use the dropdown arrow on the blue button to choose Marked 2:

It's best to set the format to TextBundle, which will avoid any sandboxing issues with images. Once that's set, ⌘6 Return should work for you.

Thank you Brett, to spend so much time with this. It is so helpful.
Now I see, we seem to have different versions of Ulysses. Got mine from MAS yesterday [pict]. Basically that sweet little arrow is missing [pict]. Thus it seems impossible to have responsive preview. What is feasible, however, with external files to right-click the sheet and choose OpenIn... Marked2 [pict]. The internal sheet context menus are different [pict].

My version is Version 2.0 (21477) from the MAS, and I get the dropdown
for both internal and external sheets. I think you may want to ping
Soulmen support and see if you can get clarification on why you're
    seeing that.

Thanks Brett, for narrowing it down.
Found one thing though which maybe useful to others. The dropdown arrow on the blue button got replaced by using TAB-key to change the default preview. Shall see what Soulmen have to say ...

    Hi Brett,

Just to let you know that Ulysses Cmd-6+"Open in Marked" doesn't render MathJax equations.

I've got the settings all set up correctly but it won't parse the Mathjax.

If I drag the file in it renders fine, but not using Export from Ulysses.

    Any tips?

You have to tell Ulysses not to escape the symbols using the "raw"
    syntax in the format menu.
