Small problem with footnote links in PDF

I am using Marked 2 Version 2.6.44 (1067) on a 2018 MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.6.9.
I am writing Multimarkdown text in Obsidian, which I then convert to PDF in Marked 2. All this works perfectly and the footnote links work fine in the Marked 2 window. Clicking on a footnote in the text brings me to the right footnote at the end and clicking on the return link immediately brings me back to the footnote mark in the text.
However, when I create the PDF I can see the footnote link and the return link, but none of them work. If I click on them nothing happens. I have tried this in three different PDF readers, PDF Expert, Adobe Acrobat Reader and in the Apple Preview App.
Is it normal that this does not work in PDF files?
