LSOpenURLsWithRole Error

I am running a licensed copy of Marked2 (version 2.5.32) on macOS Mojave (10.14.5). I've always been able to open a markdown (.md) file into the Marked app using the Unix "open" command, e.g. "open some-file.md". But within the last week or so, whenever I try to open a .md file with this command, I get the following error:

LSOpenURLsWithRole( ) failed with error -600 for the file /Users/smith/foobar.md

Does anyone know why this is suddenly happening and how I can fix the problem? Thanks.
