Dear Brett,

I have three questions about exporting as paginated pdf with the Manuscript CSS:

  1. I don’t seem to be able to get headers to show in the pdf even if I have selected them in the Export tab in Preferences; could you please advise?
  2. At the moment, CriticMarkup comments are retained in the pdf only if they are not coming after highlighted text; would it be possible to retain them even when they are coming after highlighted text?
  3. Would it be possible to retain the highlighting too in the pdf?

Thank you for your consideration.

Best regards,
Enrico

    1. Ensure that you have "Include headers and footers" checked in the
    save dialog when exporting.
2 & 3: Can you provide me with a sample document that contains the
    markup you'd like to export?

    Dear Brett,

Thank you very much for the – as usual – prompt and helpful reply.

    1. Ensure that you have "Include headers and footers" checked in the save dialog when exporting.

    That solved it: thanks!

2 & 3: Can you provide me with a sample document that contains the markup you'd like to export?

Thank you for offering to look into that. I have the documents on which I am working now, but it contains sensitive information; I could send it to an email address that does not lead to online publication of the document; alternatively, I could attach here a Lorem Ipsum sample document – whatever you prefer.

    Thank you again.

    Best regards,
    Enrico

A dummy document that just contains the markup and demonstrates the issue would be great.

    Thanks,
    Brett

Here the are, Brett: the .md file and the resulting pdf exported with Marked 2 (Manuscript style). Thank you for looking into that!

It appears that all of the comments are being maintained, just the highlights are missing. Is that correct?

I've fixed the highlight export for the next update.

Thank you very much for the very prompt and very helpful action, Brett; however, in the exported pdfs I cannot see the CM comments when they come right after the text that was highlighted in Composer and that showed up as highlighted in Marked 2: for those comments, in Marked 2 and in the exported pdf I can only see a superscripted dagger with an orange background next to the text that was highlighted in Composer; in Marked 2 if I hover on the dagger I can see the text of the comment — also with an orange background — but in the pdf if I hover on the dagger or if I click on it nothing happens. I have tried with Preview, Skim and Highlights. Thanks agin for your consideration.

    Best regards,
    Enrico

Ah, I see. Marked's current system of export cannot add actual PDF
annotations, so unfortunately those comments cannot be included.

Thank you for the prompt clarification, Brett. It’s unfortunate, but I am sure we will be able to find a way around that: for example, adding an empty line between the highlighted text and the comment, or bolding the text instead of highlighting it. Again, thank you very much for so kindly looking into this and for a fantastic application.

    Best regards,
    Enrico
