When using images in a markdown files, I would prefer to use relative directory reference (for leanpub) :

![Three Planes of Device Operation](image/chap1-three-device-planes.png)

But my Scrivener files & the respective Marked preview don't know where this directoy is located.

Is there some sort of Metadata I could add to specify the absolute location of the image files ?

Not presently. In the next version of Marked all relative image paths are assumed to start in the folder where the .scriv file resides, which makes it possible to use paths that translate easily to a published document. At this time, though, absolute paths are necessary.
