Do you have a custom processor set up? Is it crashing immediately on launch, or when doing something specific? Is there a particular document that might be problematic? Do you have a crash log? Any other info you can provide?

Thanks,

Thank you so much for the quick reply. The app crashes as soon as I attempt to open a .md file with it, either directly or via the Sublime Text workflow. I've realized the problem might be the macOS update (10.14.1). I think I updated Markdown 2 at roughly the same time so not sure about the sequence.

I'm pasting below the crash log, hopefully it helps.

Btw since these problems I've realized how much I value Marked 2 -- keep up the good work!

Thanks a lot,
Fabrizio

BTW, all paths to binaries full and correct, all paths to included files/bibliography/files/csl files etc correct and working.

scott koga-browestag:support.markedapp.com,2011-09-11:Comment/465027402019-03-16T18:23:30Z2019-03-16T18:23:30ZMarked keeps crashing after updating to 2.5.27

I still haven't been able to narrow down exactly what this error is. I do know that it has something to do with the arguments, certain arguments cause the crash while others don't. If anyone has any insight into exactly which ones cause crashes, please share.

Bretttag:support.markedapp.com,2011-09-11:Comment/465027402019-03-18T21:28:37Z2019-03-18T21:28:38ZMarked keeps crashing after updating to 2.5.27

For me, I have no problem when things are simple. For example,
-f markdown -t html5
works fine. The problem is as soon as I add the
--filter
and
--bibliography
arguments. Lots of folks use pandoc with pandoc-citeproc. When I try
--filter pandoc-citeproc
, it crashes. When I put in the
complete path

--filter=/Users/nicholascifuentes-goodbody/anaconda3/bin/pandoc-citeproc
it works. But then I add
--bibliography=
and the path to my
.bib
file,
and it crashes. So I think the problem is somewhere in
--filter
and/or

--bibliography
.

Nicholas Cifuentes-Goodbodytag:support.markedapp.com,2011-09-11:Comment/465027402019-03-18T21:32:25Z2019-03-18T21:32:25ZMarked keeps crashing after updating to 2.5.27

Thanks Nicholas, that's a start. Any chance you can show me full examples of arguments that work vs arguments that crash?

Thanks,
Brett

Bretttag:support.markedapp.com,2011-09-11:Comment/465027402019-03-18T22:37:40Z2019-03-18T22:37:41ZMarked keeps crashing after updating to 2.5.27

Sure!

This works:
-f markdown -t html5

This crashes:
-f markdown -t html5 --filter pandoc-citeproc

This works:
-f markdown -t html5 --filter=/Users/nicholascifuentes-goodbody/anaconda3/bin/pandoc-citeproc
This crashes:
-f markdown -t html5 --filter=/Users/nicholascifuentes-goodbody/anaconda3/bin/pandoc-citeproc --bibliogaphy
This works:
-f markdown -t html5 --filter=/Users/nicholascifuentes-goodbody/anaconda3/bin/pandoc-citeproc --bibliography=/Users/nicholascifuentes-goodbody/Dropbox/bib_file/library.bib
This works:
-f markdown -t html5 --filter=/Users/nicholascifuentes-goodbody/anaconda3/bin/pandoc-citeproc --bibliography=/Users/nicholascifuentes-goodbody/Dropbox/bib_file/library.json

I think the issue is that some people may be running pandoc without
pandoc-citeproc installed or maybe there's some sort of path issue for
people who didn't install pandoc with the OS installer from the pandoc
website (i.e. people who have it installed via Anaconda).

Nicholas Cifuentes-Goodbodytag:support.markedapp.com,2011-09-11:Comment/465027402019-03-18T22:39:06Z2019-03-18T22:39:06ZMarked keeps crashing after updating to 2.5.27

This is great, thank you.

here goes...

PROCESSOR

/usr/local/bin/pandoc

-f markdown -t html --filter=pandoc-crossref --filter=pandoc-citeproc -N -s -H /full/path/to/preview.css

pandoc-citeproc and pandoc-crossref are both in '/usr/local/bin/'

PREPROCESSOR

/Users/spkb/.local/bin/pp

THESE SETTINGS WORKS FINE (for me!)

BTW, I noted previously that the preferences pane and the green and yellow
status bar 'lamps' for pre/processor don't seem to be in sync - ie enabling
the custom processor in the pref pane doesn't seem to turn on the green
indicator at the bottom of the document preview window. A couple of times
It was when I noticed this and clicked the indicator (to turn on the custom
processor for the open document) that the crash happened.

Also, I realised that the cause of some of the crashes I experienced was a
mistake I had in the arguments for the custom processor;
I had used the short option (typed '-H=/path/to/file.css' ) whereas it should have been '-H /path/to/file.css' - I'd left in the equals sign from
the long-option version '--include-in-header'. So, 'operator error' and not
a Marked2 problem in this case.

Having said that, and as I think I've seen you say somewhere, it would be
useful to have a little more help from the app to identify/avoid these
problems.

Cheers,

+++++

Scott Koga-Browestag:support.markedapp.com,2011-09-11:Comment/465027402019-03-22T14:58:42Z2019-03-22T14:58:42ZMarked keeps crashing after updating to 2.5.27

Thanks for the examples, I'm working on making Marked handle errors more elegantly.

Scott, BTW, enabling the processor in preferences just makes it available to the previews, and enabling "use by default" will automatically turn it on for new preview windows, but will not modify open windows. Unless it's on by default, you always have to enable it by clicking the indicator buttons in the preview (or use the gear menu/⌘⌥C).

Bretttag:support.markedapp.com,2011-09-11:Comment/465027402019-03-22T15:22:25Z2019-03-22T15:22:25ZMarked keeps crashing after updating to 2.5.27

Ok, found the issue and have it fixed for the next update. Now it will properly display any error results from the custom processor as an alert instead of, you know, crashing.

To be fair, this is what it was always supposed to do, but I found a bug that was causing the error alert itself to crash the app. Fun.

Brett
