Hiding per-document styles for other processors

Hi,

when i include Quotes Language: german as the first line of a markdown doc, the setting works and Marked2 is displaying Quotes in the proper german format.

As i sometimes use other Markdown-Clients/Processors, i want to hide this specific settings from them. Reading the Marked2 Help, i was under the impression, that i can just include the following at the top of a markdown-document:

<!--
Quotes Language: german
-->

When i do this, Marked 2.5.10 will not recognize the setting and display the quotes in the english format (66 / 99) again.

Is this a bug or am i making a mistake?

Thanks,
Stefan

I would say it's neither, but worthy of looking into. The commented-out
metadata only applies to Marked-specific features, as the reason for
using it would be that you want to publish to a non-multimarkdown
processor, in which case you'd want to display no metadata as it
wouldn't have any effect. If you're using it with a processor that
_does_ understand metadata, you wouldn't need the comments at all, and
the additional marked-specific meta wouldn't have any effect.

If you're using it with the internal Discount processor, you can check
"strip mmd headers" in Advanced prefs to hide the additional meta
(though there does appear to be a bug there right now), but Marked would
still pick up it's own special syntax.

However… after testing it out in a few different situations, I do
think that Marked should be able to recognize a commented block
containing any/all metadata keys at the very beginning of the document,
removing the comment tags if it's using MultiMarkdown, and recognizing
its own keys either way. This would be similar to the "YAML Frontmatter"
settings (but wouldn't require a configuation option, it would just be
default behavior). This would fit your use case much better, and I'll
plan to incorporate it for an update soon.

Sorry about the long-winded explanation… it's early and I'm thinking
    out loud.

    Hi Brett,

sorry for getting back to you a bit slow, but i first had to try to understand what you wrote there. I tried, but i still don't ;-)

I am writing markdown in BBedit and iA Writer. Both of these Apps also offer an internal preview and neither of them supports the Quotes Language: german setting. So i am looking for a way to be able to use that setting without having it rendered in cases where i use BBedit or iA Writer to preview the markdown.

I want to keep the setting in the source, so i can, for example use Marked 2 to copy HTML-Source with pretty quotes…

From what i understood from your reply, i think that is currently not possible but will be, once you incorporate the change to also allow of commenting out metadata keys, right?

Thanks a lot for incorporating this! Much appreciated.

That's correct, I've already fixed it for the next version.

    Thanks,

    Brett,

i noticed this still doesn't work. No wonder, as i am still on 2.5.10 (a year later) and that also seems to be the latest version on the AppStore. Is Marked2 no longer maintained? Did i miss the Memo?

    Thanks,
    Stefan

It's 100% still maintained and actively developed, there have just been
a few blockers to getting the next version officially released. Please
    try out the beta, though:

    Hi Brett,

that is good to hear! Don't get me wrong, personally i hate apps which e.g. push updates every 2 weeks and cause a lot of bandwidth consumption and also consume my time (updating and reading their very funny release notes). But over a year for a dot-release seemed a bit long.
As this is no pressing issue, i'll gladly await the next update. Thanks a lot!
