Looks like the filename sort capabilitiy and field expansion functionality are disabled on the Open dialog window after selecting Marked's "File --> Open..." menu item. As I drill down, toward the folder (directory) the holds the target README.markdown file, this functionality is enabled thereafter. Please see attached PNG file for details.

Hm, this isn't anything I intentionally disabled, so it must not be enabled in the dialog by default. I'll find the setting to make that happen for the next release.

I'm doing some testing on this and the column headers are working fine for me every time. What version of OS X are you using, and do you run anything like Default Folder X or input managers which might affect this?

I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.1, the latest Lion. I don't have any input
managers running, and no default folder X.

Apparently, this isn't a MarkedApp issue at all. I just noticed that
the Finder, Chrome and some other apps, but not all, have the same issue
with one specific directory on my box.
I first noticed the issue when attempting to use Marked to open
README.markdown files on my machine. Weird. Please accept my apology
for this wild goose chase. Thank you.

No problem at all, glad to know it's not my fault :).
